His song “Jo Jo-Tarsey Meira Jeera” has been counted 117 times throughout several T&T carnival events. Yankaran, who is living in NY and started singing at the age of ten is a well known artist to chutney fans, as he composed “Nanda Baba”, a song, which still gets a lot of airplay and credits among the East Indian community.
Besides, the NCFTT announced the 2008 Chutney Soca Monarch Competition to be bigger and better promoted, as sponsors are already found.

The renowned Calypsonian Fitzgerald C. Henry, better known as Mighty Terror, passed away on Tuesday at age 86. He had started his career in the late 40s and was active as an performer until recently. Some of his best known Calypsos are “Brownskin Girl”, “Heading North” or “Calypso War”. In 1966 he won the Calypso Crown with “Play Mas” and “Steelband Jamboree”. He is Survived by his wife and four daughters.

Calypso veteran Derrick ‘De Hunter’ St. Rose silenced critics when he won the calypso monarch after seven long years and dethroned three-peat calypso king Dennison ‘DICE’ Joseph at an intense finale.
He also put on an exceptional performance a day later to win, for the second year in a row, the Soca Monarch competition at Carnival City in Pottersville.
