Los Buenos Parranderos are Parang Champions

Los Buenos Parranderos to the National Parang championship on Saturday night. Twelve parang bands performed before the judges at the parang headquarters in Arima.
In second place was Barataria’s Amantes de Parranda led by George Carter and Los Parranderos de UWI with lead singer Joanne Briggs, came in third for the first time in seven years.
Los Parranderos de UWI has placed second in the parang finals for the past six years.

Trinidad Reggae CD

This might be a little off-topic here, but I think it’s worth to mention: Trinidad reggae has come to attention since the massive worldwide hit “Ganja Farmer” by Marlon Asher. Now a CD compilation called “Reggae Road Block” will be released with artists like Isasha, Prophet Benjamin, Khari Kill, Benjai, Mr. King and Queen Omega.

We Parangin’

We’re right in the middle of the parang season. Many new tunes have been released: three riddims with parang soca (Bilah, Intoxicated, Stagger), new songs by Leon Caldero, Scrunter and Ataklan, and a parang soca album by Poser. Now the forth edition of the popular Strictly Parang cd series is now out. It features many classic parang recordings like La Divina Pastora), Vamos Todos and Brisas de Tulia (San Jose Serenaders), La Colga (Santa Theresa); Rio Manzanare (Santa Familia) and many more.
Also a new mixcd called “We Parangin’” with new and old parang and parang soca tunes is out now in stores.

Minmi - Japanese soca video

Watch the video of “Summertime”, a nice pop tune with jump-up soca flavors by Japanease dancehall artist Minmi. Minmi became known in the “western world” with her songs for the anime series Samurai Champloo.

New The Same People cd

The Same People The legendary Venezuelan calipso band The Same People will release their new cd for 2006 called Haciendo Historia soon. Check out the new single Mal de Sambito which will make the carnival people of El Callao crazy for shure.

Sanelle returned to Blue Ventures

Rumors say that Sanelle Dempster has returned to Blue Ventures. She left the band 2 years ago to work as a solo artist. Sanelle Dempster is one of the few female roadmarch winners (with “D River” in 1999).
