Probably the oldest record store for soca music, Rhyner’s, is now closed. Founded in 1938, the shop now moved from Prince Street, Port of Spain in Trinidad to a internet based online shop. Diana Rhyner said, that piracy, vagrancy and banditry forced the shop to close.

Its rather unfortunate this has happened.
Rhyners has given many artist an outlet for their music both for the sale and launch of their music annually before the latter was stopped over the past few years. Its what i consider a kaiso institution. For the main reasons given for closure,it does”nt affect the powers that be,therefore all the various aspects of crime are allowed to florish and while I hope for the best, time for action is now or there will be more Rhyner-like casualties across the artistic community.
