The famous calypsonnian Carlton Joseph aka Lord Blakie died this week. Blakie aged 72 lost a long-running battle against prostate cancer.
He won the road march titlein 1962 with “Maria”, which was the only tune between 1956 and 1977, other than Sparrow or Lord Kitchener, to win the title. Another popular tune is “Steelband Clash” which deals with the violent fights between the steelbands.
Among his other memorable tunes were “Send Them Back”, “Something Wrong”, “Warlord” and “Hold the Pussy”.
